Evernote was the clear choice for saving all those notes that had been residing on my PDA. A few months later, I migrated from my beloved Palm TX PDA to an iPhone. So I started using EN as an email archive tool. But a few months later, I had a need to organize/archive my emails & remembered Evernote. At that time, OneNote was the one I went with & which I still use but not nearly as much as I use EN - not even close. Evernote (in it's initial stages of the service app rather than the Windows only/payware app) and OneNote. I was overwhelmed with trying to keep ideas for various projects organized. I have to say this actually is how I came to EN. If it clicks, it clicks & if it doesn't, it doesn't. (Banking, backup, AV & anti malware being the exceptions.) So I'm not going to try to convince someone they should use Evernote. I almost never try to convince someone they should use a particular app. IMO, you try an app & if it doesn't work for you, then don't use it. Yeah, I thought it was kind of neat from a different POV about "I finally get it." I always find the "why should I use Evernote?" posts goofy. So what’s not to like? LifeHacker’s Melanie Pinola suggests that Evernote is still the better tool for to collect and organize information and mobile note taking.Nice to see that the penny drops with everyone. (Don’t worry, they offer 5 GB of storage for free.)

There is still a paid version, if you need to store your notes outside of OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage service. Users seem to love it as an alternative to Evernote, including the OneNote Clipper, and it’s completely free, even for non- Office 365 customers. However, it still works best on Windows-based devices. Though it was initially not available for iOS devices, OneNote addressed that shortcoming by going cross-platform. Microsoft’s OneNote product has long been the Pepsi to Evernote’s Coca-Cola (or vice versa).

But one reason many users cite for leaving Evernote is feature bloat and over-complication, so if you’re in that camp, Laverna might be what you’re looking for. Forget about any advanced features like a web clipper or search tool. It basically handles note taking and task management, and nothing else.

To be clear, Laverna is extremely simple.
